The End of the Word Trade Center's South Tower
Boeing 767-222 or flight 175 like flight 11 was scheduled to fly across the country, from Boston to Los Angeles with 56 passengers, 7 flight attendants, and 2 pilots aboard.
At 8:41, 27 minutes after departure, one of the pilots reported hearing a transmission of Flight 11 while it was being taken over. NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command)'s June 18th timeline states that at 8:43, one minute after the plane veered off course the FAA notified them of hijacking, and at 8:46 the transponder signal on the flight stopped and communication ended. AT 8:57, the plane began a rapid 28,000 foot descent into the World Trade Center. According to Peter Burton Hanson, at 8:43 he received a call from his son saying, "Oh, my God! They just stabbed the airline hostess. I think the airline is being hijacked" Other passengers on the vehicle were also making calls, including Brian Sweeney and an unnamed flight attendant. 17 minutes after the North Tower went down, this plane took out the South Tower without a problem at 9:02:40 according to the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board). |
