islamophobia
In 2011, the Associated Press claimed that the NYPD was spying on New York mosques.
Is it reasonable after such an attack for the police to be stereotyping? Is it still reasonable ten years later? The most commonly accepted opinions of Islamophobes are:

An unfortunately popular trend in the late 1990s, Islamophobia increased profoundly after 9/11 not only in America but also every European country except Great Britain. In Italy, physical assaults in mosques demonstrated the dangers of a growing prejudice. Danish propaganda negatively categorized Muslims and Belgium students verbally abused their Muslim peers.
Of course Americans behaved no differently. Zohreh Assemi, a muslim woman, was beaten harshly, sliced by a box cutter, robbed, called a terrorist and told to "Get out of this town" by an American man in September, 2007. Since 9/11 Muslims have been treated especially unfairly in Airports, as they are now associated with airplane hijackings in America. Luckily, according to surveys by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), American views of Islam slightly improved between 2004 and 2006. |
"I also want to speak tonight directly to Muslims throughout the world. We respect your faith. It's practiced freely by many millions of Americans, and by millions more in countries that America counts as friends. Its teachings are good and peaceful, and those who commit evil in the name of Allah blaspheme the name of Allah. The terrorists are traitors to their own faith, trying, in effect, to hijack Islam itself. The enemy of America is not our many Muslim friends; it is not our many Arab friends. Our enemy is a radical network of terrorists, and every government that supports them. Our war on terror begins with al Qaeda, but it does not end there. It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated"
-Excerpt from George W. Bush's address to the nation on September 20, 2001 |
The Islam religion supposedly told the al-Queda terrorists to take down the Twin Towers. It is, in the belief of their religion, the entrance to heaven to die with purpose. In the minds of the muslims terrorists, their purple was to extinguish Western culture as much as possible. According to their beliefs, Allah, or what many would call God, called upon them to make devastation in United States.
America is home to the freedom of religion, it would not expect to be under attack. however, the majority of American citizens are not Islams, and therefore, are detrimental in the opinions of radical muslims. Now, Americans see Muslims as evil. As with any group of people there are good and there are bad. Yet, it is human nature to associate people from the past to people in the present. In other words, although the new judgement of religion and looks is horrible, it also makes sense.
Is being spurred by religion is an acceptable excuse for murder in Allah's eyes?
