Boeing 767-223ER was the to first hit in the attacks.
On route from Boston to Los Angeles, 81 passengers, nine flight attendants, and two pilots were placed under attack and forced into the North Tower of the World Trade Center at 8:46 in the morning.
At 8:24, the westward pointed vessel did a 100 degree turn toward the south, aimed at New York City. With no distress button pushed by either of the two pilots, there is not enough public information to determine the exact route of the terrorists but it is presumed that they followed the Hudson River.
The NORAD September 18 timeline accuses the FAA of neglecting to contact them within the first 25 minutes of concern.
At 8:21, Vanessa Minter of the American Airlines reservations was phoned by flight attendant Betty Ong while Madeline Sweeney called American Airlines ground manager Michael Woodward at Logan. Michael Woodward failed to record his conversation with the attendant but did take notes while Sweeney spoke calmly for 25 minutes.

Before departure, one of the leading Islamic extremists, Mohammad Atta made a cell phone call to Marwan Alshehhi, a terrorist aboard United Airlines Flight 175 to go over the hijacking plan. Based on the ending of communications between aircraft and ground control, at about 8:13 Atta began to carry out his plans of taking over the plane and removing command from Captain John Ogonowski. At the same time that the plane made a drastic turn, ground control heard a hijacker saying,
"We have some planes"
and later,
"Nobody move, please, we are going back to the airport. Don't try to make any stupid moves."

Vanessa Minter picked up a call from an Airfone on Flight 11 at 8:20, the call had been placed by a distressed flight attendant, Betty Ong. Minter added her supervisor Nydia Gonzalez, who added the manager Craig Marquis to the call within a matter of a few anxious minutes.
The conversation was recorded and went on until the crash into the North Tower at 8:46 a.m. The aircraft was traveling at 470 miles per hour and hit between the 94th and the 98th floor, about an hour and a half later because of the 10,000 gallons of burning fuel, the tower collapsed. |
